How to stay healthy
We encourage our community to stay healthy during the pandemic, and to engage in good practices that reduce your risk of contracting COVID-19. Here are some awesome resources for your general health.

Anyone (not just Humboldt students) can receive support on Calfresh enrollment, Medi-Cal access, or other basic needs information. How to stay mentally resilient
Here are some resources to help you stay mentally resilient:
In general, practice good self-care and find ways to live according to your values and goals. Pay attention to how your thoughts and attitudes in any given moment are impacting your mood and overall well-being. For example, are they helping you to be resilient, balanced, and relatively productive-OR-are they causing anxiety, feelings of depression and “stuckness?” Talk with others, connect. It is normal to have ebbs and flows with your mood and productivity levels but if you get “stuck” in a dark space for an uncomfortably long time, consider reaching out to get help (such as from a counselor at CAPS). If you are doing well, think about passing along tips to your friends and family members. We are all in this together and will get through this together.
Never hold back when you need some help!
- Visit Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) to learn more about counseling and wellbeing services that you can access. CAPS continues to offer individual appointments (by Zoom or phone). Just call 707.826.3236 or email hsucaps@humboldt.edu if you are interested in scheduling an appointment. Receptionists are available between 9 am-12 pm and 1-4 pm Monday through Friday.
- CAPS has many support groups & skills-based groups & workshops. Many are just an hour in length and easy to fit into a busy schedule. Click here for information and zoom links to CAPS workshop and groups.
- The Humboldt County Department of Health & Human Services is also providing support related to COVID-19. Their professional staff are available if you are feeling anxious, worried, or depressed related to the current health crisis and need someone to talk to. Reach out for support by calling 707-268-2999, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Active Minds (a student led and nationwide mental health advocacy organization for higher education) has good resources on their website: https://www.activeminds.org/

- Monthly Happiness Calendar from the Greater Good Science Center. The month of April is dedicated to finding resilience and reducing anxiety in the midst of Coronavirus. You can subscribe and have activities added to your Google Calendar.

- A Host of Articles by the American Psychological Association related to Pandemics including Coronavirus (coping with stress and anxiety, combating bias and stigma, etc.)
- Meditation is a great way to relieve stress, improve sleep, and reduce anxiety. Headspace is offering some free mediation modules to try.

How to stay fit
Trying to find a way to stay fit at home? Don’t fret! Here are some great resources to help you get started.
- Create your own at home workout.
- Check out Healthsport’s free, on-demand workout videos.
- Helpful hints from a Kinesiology professor from Auburn.
For those who do better in a communal space, the Student Recreation Center (SRC) is open and operational. Local gyms, such as Health Sport and The Club are also open for business. Be sure to mask and practice good COVID-19 mitigation strategies.
