Erika Demers, LMFT (she/her/hers)

Staff Psychotherapist & Postgraduate Resident Coordinator

Biography:

I moved to Humboldt County over 17 years ago and have been practicing as a psychotherapist for many years now. The nature and the community are very special here in this county. To be a psychotherapist has been a big dream and continues to be a calling for me as I grow and expand on this path. I love the arts, mindfulness and being involved with positive transformations. I believe it is possible to heal and transform and connect more fully to others, to nature and animals and to ourselves.

On a personal note, I am a mother of two teenagers and have two dogs and have ahd the privilege to have dogs most of my life.  I love to paint, play the piano, read, listen to music and walk in nature.

Areas of Interest:

I specialize in working with those with depression, anxiety, trauma, transitions, relationship problems and those who need some kind of change in their lives.  I am humanistic and person-centered in approach with a touch of existential/transpersonal awareness.  My extensive training in expressive arts therapy in my graduate program and working with clients creatively ever since, is something I love to incorporate when I can.  Also, I have many tools founded in mindfulness, somatic therapy, and cognitive behavioral work. I am certified in Brainspotting, a trauma informed technique, and am commited to racial justice while I continue to do my own anti-racist work.  I also have interest in healing through grief, chronic pain, and non-ordinary states of consciousness.  I have a growing interest in ecopsychology and many other interests in the field as well as in neuropsychology and systems work.
