Jennifer Blair, LMFT (she/her)

Staff Psychotherapist; Coordinator of Groups & Special Projects

Biography:

Coming to Humboldt County from Southern California in 1999, like many “transplants” I fell in love with the area and developed a vested interest in our community’s health and wellbeing. A graduate of the HSU MA Counseling program (2003) I loved work over many years with community non-profits and County Behavioral Health.

Theoretically I am Humanistic. I believe that we are actualizing, i.e., on a path to fulfilling our gifts, and that humans are inherently good. In practice, I value unconditional positive regard, genuineness, egalitarianism, and believe that the ultimate answers live within each of us. The work of Dr. Bruce Perry has been supportive in my trauma informed care, reframing “What is wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

The late Buddhist monk, Tich Nhat Hanh said, “We are here to awaken from the illusion of our separateness.” In this light and the light of the beauty in all dimensions of human cultures and ways of being, social justice and allyship are especially important to me. Having had wonderful experiences and education in years past, I am so happy to return to Cal Poly Humboldt and offer care and support to the campus community.
